A Simple Homemade Crystal Wedding Tree
| If you’ve ever seen a crystal wedding tree before, you might be rather amazed. These marvels of light are almost like upside down chandeliers with twice the branching elegance. And if you’re reading this you also have probably decided that you would like to have one of these brilliant spectacles of light all to yourself, but either saw the price tag on one of them and got frightened or simply couldn’t find one to purchase in the first place. | ![]() |

Looking at one of these crystal wedding trees one may wonder just how exactly it could be possible to create one as a home arts and crystal crafts project, but I assure you it is not only possible, it is in fact rather an easy task to accomplish. You shouldn’t of course expect anything overly fancy and extravagant, for example you won’t be likely to use a basic wooden tree made of spiraling branches or actual crystal replica of the base tree if you’re working at home. Still though, you may be surprised as to just what you can accomplish working with the materials and skills you can have access to.

First though, you’ll need to take a few things into account. What is your interior lighting scheme? What is the color scheme of the room that will house the crystal wedding tree? And how large is this room? These questions will affect how large your tree will be as well as what the colors of the colored beads and crystals used will be and whether or nor it has a built-in light source.

Once you have resolved these factors there is one more thing you’ll need to decide upon. Do you want to go outside and use actually broken off branches as the base of your tree or do you want to bend some metal wire into the proper shape or even look for dried spiraled branches to use for your own. I would recommend the former, as an avid outdoor lover, but the latter ones have more potential flexibility of design. Once you have your base you will need to place it in a foundation. You could simply plant it in a pot like a real tree; just hold the branches in place with several heavy pond or river stones. They add a wonderful effect to the overall look. |

Next you will need to take some colored beads found at almost any crafts store or even some old cheap bracelets and necklaces that match your color scheme and string them about your tree. You will need quite a lot of these. If you happen to have some large single crystals you could try to attach them one by one at the ends of the branches like individual leaves. Now if you chose to use a light source there are two ways to do this, you could take a string of old Christmas lights either the white or colored kind depending on your design and string them about just like the beads. Or if you chose a wire frame design you can find small votive candle holders with a metal base at a craft store and hang them from the small metal wires for a truly beautiful effect. Be careful about fires with the other materials.
