Create your own Recessed Light Chandelier

Want a fun new way to add some crystal ambiance to your home?

Why not hang crystals from your recessed light trim? You can create the look of a designer home within a few simple steps. You can tak a simple silver recessed light trim and add Cristalier Crystals in any color of your choice and for under $25 make a recessed lights into a little mini chandelier. It was quick, easy and beautiful!

You will need the following materials:

  • 1 replacement recessed light trim per light - We found that most Lowe's or Home Depots carry these in the lighting department. They come in white, silver or black. If you can't find one in the finish you want you can always paint it with metallic or flat paints. If you are using acrylic crystals, you will be ok with a plastic trim piece. If you are going to be using glass crystals, opt for a metal trim piece to support the weight.
  • A hammer and a nail - This is to punch holes in the trim ring. You can opt for another option which is to wrap the trim piece in craft wire. If you choose this method be sure to wrap the trim tightly and tuck in any loose wire. If you do decided to punch holes, use the hammer and nail to punch tiny holes in the trim. If you have a handyman around a third option is to have him drill little holes all through the trim.
  • Craft wire or monofilament - This is to attach your crystals to the trim piece. If you choose craft wire; a 24 or 26 wire is easy to handle and readily available in most craft or hobby shops. You can also use monofilament, which is just a fancy word for fishing wire. Again this is easy to find in just about local store.
  • Cristalier Crystals - Cristalier.com has over 500 crystals for you to choose from and since most orders are shipped same to next day, you should have your crystal in a jiffy.

Now that you have your materials, you can begin your layout. You will want to decide if you want to have a very full recessed light chandelier or to just add a few crystals for a "less is more" look. Either way you will need to either punch holes in the trim using the hammer and nail or wrap the trim in wire as explained above.

Once you have the trim piece prepared you will want to attach your crystals. You can hang long strands or simple larger pieces. You can mix and match all sorts of colors and styles of crystals. Remember to keep your trim piece evenly proportioned with your Cristalier crystals.

The last step is attach the trim piece to your recessed light. This can be a little tricker but worth the trouble. You will need to be sure the light is turned off and the bulb is cool to touch. The remove the bulb, reach inside and unclip the baffle and replace the old trim piece with your new crystal enhanced version. Reattach the baffle and replace the light bulb.

Tah dah! You have a brilliant Cristalier Crystal Chandelier for your recessed lights.

With so many options to creating a recessed light chandelier, you can have one in every room in your home.

Additional options:

You can purchase magnets from local craft stores ( they are often in the jewelry section) and clip your Crystals to the metal trim piece.

You can also purchase 12 gage wire to create a strong circle. You than attach your crystals to the ring and hang that from your ceiling using "j" hooks or plant hangers.

You can use velvet or organza string to tie your crystals to the trim pieces on your recessed lights.
